Civil Rights and HIPAA Complaint Process Training (Jul. 13th, 2009)
The Minnesota Asian/American Health Coalition (MA/AHC) is bringing the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) to MN on July 23 & 24 to provide training.
MA/AHC is bringing the OCR to Minnesota July 23 & July 24 to provide training on what organizations can do through their office to better advocate for local communities and address barriers to health access. The U. S. Department of Health and Human Services, OCR is responsible for enforcing the civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on national origin, which includes language access at hospitals and clinics.
What will you learn at the training:
1. An overview on the rights of persons receiving services and/or benefits from covered entities that come under OCR’s jurisdiction.
2. An overview of the responsibilities of covered entities that receive Federal financial assistance in the area of civil rights and/or are covered by the HIPAA Privacy Rule.
3. Instruction on how to file an OCR complaint.
4. Assistance of persons, who believe their civil rights or privacy rule rights have been violated, in filing an OCR complaint on-site after the training presentation.
