Celebrate Cinco de Mayo! (May. 5th, 2010)
Come to the District del Sol in West St. Paul on Friday, May 7 & Saturday, May 8 to enjoy the festivities.
Did you know Cinco de Mayo commemorates Mexico’s defeat of the French and not their Independence?
Cinco de Mayo marks the anniversary of Mexico’s Battle of Puebla in 1862 when the Mexican army defeated the French. Mexico’s Independence Day is actually on September 16 and is referred to as, The Shout of Independence or in Spanish, El Grito de Independencia.
The Cinco de Mayo celebration will include Mexican culture, music, customs, beverages and lots of food.
The United Stated honors Mexico’s history, culture and traditions. Similarly, West Side staff honor this tradition. West Side Community Health Services will be at the Community Wellness Village on Saturday, May 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Our Health Education Staff will be present, including, HIV, Dental, Diabetes and Sage to promote health and prevention screenings.
Come visit us and learn more about what we do if you don’t know already. We hope you attend the festivities and have a great time!
