West Side's Associate Medical Director Named 2010 Researcher of the Year (May. 10th, 2010)

Kathleen Culhane-Pera, M.D., received the 2010 Researcher of the Year Award from the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP).

The recipient of the Researcher of the Year Award must, through the course of his/her career, have contributed in a major, outstanding manner to the development of family medicine research in Minnesota and/or nationally. Candidates are typically nominated by their colleagues.

Dr. Culhane-Pera the Associate Medical Director and Director of Community-based Research at West Side Community Health Services and Medical Director at East Side Family Clinic in St. Paul. She is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Culhane-Pera is a well known expert on cross-cultural medicine. With her training as an anthropologist, and having lived with the Hmong people in Thailand, she brings a unique perspective to her research.

The award was given to Dr. Culhane-Pera at the MAFP Spring Refresher which took place April 15, 2010, at the Crowne Plaza Riverfront Hotel in St. Paul.

The MAFP is a professional association of approximately 3,000 family physicians, family medicine residents and medical students organized to assist family physicians in providing quality medical care in Minnesota. The MAFP is the largest medical specialty organization in Minnesota and is a state chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
